:help:I been noticing that it is getting tougher to get up on top with my pump over time. When I looked up inside to make sure the rock grates weren't bent smashed or otherwise damaged I noticed what looks like a groove spiraling up the liner. I have a stainless screw and it doesn't appear to be even nicked. I'm guessing I pushed something all the way up and out the pump at some point. My question is has anybody changed out their own liner, and if so is it really all that tough? Also, what is the expected life of a liner? I hate to pay $60+ an hr for something if it is simple disassemble and reassemble with new parts (obviously there is some sort of clearance to check also). Any help appreciated

I believe that is called a wear ring. It's not too bad to remove and the part goes for $40 @ stevens marine. Make sure to shim the impeller.

Not too tough at all.You want 10 to 30 thousands of clearance on the impeller.Move your washers top to bottom,or bottom to top so your clearance is tight but not touching. The one thing you may have trouble with,is bolts that are old. They tend to break when they get old.Any kind of pressure and they might twist off.Go easy, and it should be ok.Another thing you could do to improve performance,is have the shoe blueprinted, hot shoed I think it is called. You will pick up a few ponies. The cost is around 100 bucks.Put it back together and your done.If I can do this, anybody can.Good luck.

Not sure what motor you got, but getting the impellor off the shaft can be tough, dropping off the shoe and the replacing the liner is pretty easy, getting the impellor off to jump washers from one side to the other to shim it to a night tight tollerance can be easy or a pain.

I would guess you have a plastic sleeve between the impellor and the shaft, I have had to heat the impellor, which melted the plastic sleeve getting them off. :help: Dont heat so much that you ruin the seal on the top side of the impellor going into the lower unit.

when you buy your wear ring just pick up the plastic sleave at the same time.. .only a couple bucks... but plan on the sleave being replaced. other than that get a caliper to measure the clearance and your good to go... if you run shallow a lot i dont think having your shoe blue printed is worth your time or money.... just going to beat it up anyways....

but yes - you should shim a couple times/year on your jet and you'll be much happier w/ its performance.... sand/gravel wear away at that liner - which is what its designed to do.
