I have friends from Montana coming in tonight. They want to go Sturgeon fishing. Would like to get them some keepers. I'll be going tommorrow and would like to hear from anybody that fished the estuary this week. If nothing happening there, I'll take them up to Bonneville for a strenuous workout on oversize.

I dont know about the estuary but if you want some quiet time take them to bonnville that way they will be out before dinner.

I can't confirm this (i have not been there), but i heard they were doing ok at the mouth of Deep River. I used to fish there all the time. You should be able to pick up a keeper or two there this time of year. Maybe move up towards the flats a little bit, if you don't get any out in the deeper slot.

good luck

Deep River is 2-3 miles above the bridge on the Washington side, you can't miss it. Any other questions e-mail me.

Good luck

the best place to fish is just downriver from the mouth. there is a really deep channel created there from the river. Look for the big rock on the bank.

at times deepriver itself can be pretty good also, another spot on the washington side is down right out from where all the bankies fish at what we call the 'guardrail' hole. this is a little downriver from the #9 marker on the bank (upriver wa side from the megler/astoria bridge). The river bends in towards the bank and creates a little inlet. there is a good deep hole there. there is also a flat there that can get hot from time to time. This is a pretty popular bank hole, but you can stay out of the bank anglers range and have great fishing there.

If you not getting fish in the deeper holes go try the flats, sometimes the flats can get real hot especially this time of year.

I need to get down there, all this talk is givin me sturgeonitis flashbacks.

we picked up 4 keepers today. Two in front of Hammond on the west tip of the sands and two off of tongue point. Only caught 10 fish all day. Smelt, shrimp and anchovies.... Joe

Hey Nuttin, I'm thinking about taking off sometime in August with my son for a few days of fishing for trout in my native Montana. Would your friends have any reports or good prospects to share? I'm leaning toward my old favorites in all directions from Missoula; Bitteroot R., Blackfoot R., Rock Cr., and up in NW on the Kootenai and N.F. Flathead. Let me know if you hear anything. Thanks. -- Hey Joe, I think you might have a good case of moniker infringement against Jerry's "Stalmonator". I'm supposed to go on a shakedown run in his new Motion Marine sled Tue. Let me know if you want me to slap him around a bit for you http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif (jk). - Steve

Hey Steve, slapping seems a little too violent. You could cut the tip off his hook when he's not looking, hide a bannana in his boat in a spot so good he'll never find it, or better yet offer to pull the anchor for him and "accidentally" drag it up the side of his new boat http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. JK, after all his moniker really isn't that close to mine http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Keep it if you want, it really doesn't matter. Just curious, what does the "st" in stalmonator stand for. Salmonator was just a fun name for my boat although it's had many more sturgeon than salmon in it. Is that new motion marine a guide model?? They look like an excellent fishing boat... Joe

Sorry Salmonator about the name. I will change it as soon as I figure out how. I do not need any bananas in my boat......
