Grant, those are some monster dandy broodstock fish there.

It was really nice that the one awesome week of weather we had this winter so far hit in the middle of the sportsman show . After being stuck inside a lot this winter and then being inside at the show for a week, it sure has been nice to get out and do some steelhead fishing now that the rains have stopped.

It's amazing how fast the rivers have fallen to low and clear. I think most people love the rivers just after they first come back into shape. But I really love them when they get low and clear. Fishing low water tactics can produce awesome numbers without anyone else around.

Being able to produce under all water conditions is a must during steelehad season. We had great days fishing early in the season when the rivers were too high for most people; now we are doing great when they are too low for most.

When fishing low water, most people think you need to go to super light line and super small baits. I don't believe you need to go to light line. We fished all this week using 12# test leader under really clear conditions and did awesome. Finding the water the fish are holding in and presenting natural floating bait to them is the key. By using light leads or bobbers, you can present bait to fish and getting your bait in front of the fish is the key successful fishing. Many of the great holes when the waters is high or that perfect green (or classic steelhead water) don't hold fish when it's low and clear.

Got lots of nice nates this week but didn't get pics of most.

Mostly just a lot of cold, windy, sunny days and limits of steelhead. Fighting the wind and ice sucked this week, but the rewards where out there.
