My curiousity finally got to me about Jim Ericksons recent claims of summer steelie success on the Wilson and Nestucca so I drifted the Nestuc with him this AM. We put in at Farmer Creek ( a ramp that really needs repair) and fished to Cloverdale. In the first hour we boated Jims wildly acrobatic 8# hen and I'd had my estimated 12# chromer spit the hook after a several minute battle. Although we hooked no more, we saw groups of two to fifty at the tailouts of many holes. Pressure was virtually non-existant -- except at the mouth of Three Rivers where a couple of dead nickel bright summers lay along the shore near the dozen anglers who were lined up elbow to elbow working over a school there. It is indeed a pleasant fishery even though frustrating to see so many chrome fish that won't bite. We primarily pitched spinners (chrome with chartruese weighted bodies) but also drifted some jigs. I'd like to try it again!

Thanks for the report Bill. Looks like the Nestucca is going to have a good size run of Summers.
