Hey guys I think there are actually commercial ostrich farms and they are supposed to be better than turkey. Not as good as emu though! It's hard to decribe that taste; I'd say somewhere between periquine falcon and Calif. condor. I like them all. (jk jk jk !). - Sincerely, I appreciate the support we're giving each other. This is tough, but I have gotten over the sugar withdrawal symptoms reasonably enough to have lost 6 lbs. Mike, I too have hit the "plateau" where the losing temporarily declines despite continued dieting & exercise. If anyone has enough weight to lose, as I do, they generally will go thru a few of these before getting to their goal. The important thing is not to let it discourage you into giving up! Let's get after it even more. Really important for our health, and other benefits, and we ARE going to make it. Pizza, beer, & Halloween candy on me when we get there http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif. (jk) Fishing & golf, with a little beer maybe; on me. And a "babes phone number collecting contest" too; with the numbers to be donated to the Steve Martin "Lonely Guys Club" charity of course.(jk jk jk again). - Steve

You must only use female emu oil extracted at the height of full moon. I can't tell you how or where to apply it. Rt any pointers? hehe
Guys Keep at it on the weight loss you will get there....Changing a lifestyle is not easy work.

Hey guys, thought I would give you the big old thumbs up regarding the effort. This is one area that I have pretty good knowledge in, although I am only 5'8" and about a buck sixty, I used to really be a workout fanatic when I was in college. anyway, here are some observations and really common mistakes I have seen people make.
be sure to drink alot of water. If you don't drink water you liver has take over for the kidney as the kidney needs water to function at full capacity. If this happens your liver cannot burn as much fat. plus water cleans your sysyem out. atleast 60oz a day and more when hot. Drinkig more water will actually help you body reduce it's water weight and retention.
The biggest mistake people make is cutting the calories back to far, this will only reduce your bodies set point. Combine this with not enough water and you are now storing fat and burning up muscle. When you reducd the set point is usually when you hit a block and feel a reduction in energy. To combat this eat more often but cleaner and smaller amounts, ie 4 or 5 smaller meals/portions a day is the best way to go. One thing I used to do was break one meal into two.
2-3 lbs a week is considered good quality weight loss. any more than that and you are probably burning up muscle except for the first few weeks if you are really over weight and you have been drinking enough water to have significant water weight loss. This is important as it can be dangerous to starve yourself down to much especially the older you get.
I figure since I absorb all your fishing tips and knowledge I should share what I know in this regard sorry for the rambling and I hope this helps out.

Thanks big time Scooby! You are right on from what I've read. Important stuff. I also don't weigh in as often as most people on diets so as not to get frustrated with the inevitable plateaus. I look in the mirror about once a week, if I can stand to look http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif , to see visable difference. Since I last weighed in I was 6 lbs down. Maybe a couple more by now and it is finally showing some difference in the mirror. I'm 6' 3" and coming down from the high 240's and want to get to about 215 with a reasonable LBM index. The weight lifting at the club should help there. Thanks again. - Steve

Hey Scooby. I'm curious. You mentioned a "cleaner" diet in your note. I've read that term a lot in weightlifting mags, but what exactly does it mean? Thanks!! ~Lee

Cleaner diet means lower fat, higher energy foods. for example, cut back the simple carbohydrates and replace them with complex carbohydrates. Leaner cuts of meat, replace the good old rib steak with a sirloin http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif ouch!!
The idea is to eat food that has better/ higher nutrional value.
Simple carbs basically are like eating fat if you eat too much. I know people who cut them completly out of their diet. (i think this is extreme) This would be starchy foods, such as bread, plain pasta. Eat more complex carbs, One of the best of these being your green vegetables and reduce the simple carbs in your diet.
In doing this you can eat more often, and have greater nutrional value, and at the same time reduce your calories. The key is to find a variety of these foods that you like. for example: Chicken, fish, fruits, vegetables, beans (great dietary food), oatmeal and lots of water. If a serving of an item has more than 10 grams of fat, get rid of it.
RT has the right idea, by adding the combo of weight training you build you lean muscle tissue and this will increase you ability to burn calories and will increase your fat burning.
One trick that is used to make sure you do not lower your set point is to be sure and vary you caloric intake. For example: on M,T,W eat 2000 calories, and on Th eat 2300. Also, be sure to reward yourself, I always would eat whatever i felt like on saturday http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif bring on the ice cream.

I quit smoking 1 year ago and have gained 30 lbs. I have some thoughts I would like to share. As part of my cold weather survival training in the Army they taught us that you had to consume a certain amount of calories to maintain body heat.
Sooooo..If that is true then I should be able to eat 1/2 gallon of really cold ice cream..followed by pepperoni pizza and my body will burn up all of the claories I consumed just trying to heat back up from the ice cream..
Do you think it would make beer calorie free if I just drank it real cold?

Zaq is on a program that he swears is amazing. I'm going to take a closer look at it to compare to the circuit training I'm doing at the club. Involves both a dietary and exercise committment. Check it out at www.bodyforlife.com (http://www.bodyforlife.com) -- WW- That's the diet I've been on up till now. Unless you want to be a summo wrestler it doesn't work! http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
