This weekend I caught a 14# hen and sticking out of its mouth was what looked to be a radio antenna, While cleaning the fish I checked the stomach to see what it was, and to my surprise there was about a 3 inch radio transmittor, I read the writing on it, and it said, $100 reward, and the address to send it to. RT or anyone else do you know anything about this program? Any info would be greatly apprectiated.
Thanks

The receiver inside the fish came from the University of Idaho. Could this have been a stray Snake River fish, it was caught on a trib. of the Columbia, but 17 miles upstream.

Zaq, I have also heard about the program you mentioned, but it was my understanding as well that the antennas would be coming out near their dorsal fins. I hope I have not done anything to break the law that was not my intention at all. I E-Mailed the university of Idaho as well to try and get some further information.

You haven`t done anything wrong .. We get alot of these fish in the Mid Columbia , they put them in at Bonn .. I think they want to find out where these fish are going and how long it takes them to get there... I know of 3 springers caught on the Deschutes this year that had transmittors in them, with about an 8`` antenna hanging out of there mouths .. send it in and get your reward .

FF- Al I know is that these types of studies have been going on for many years, including reward incentives to increase their info base. They study migration and other factors that affect survival rates. There is significant straying by anadromous fish. Beyond that I don't know enough about the specifics of individual studies. Let us know what you find out about it. Interesting! - RT
