Does anybody have a south santiam river update? we're thinking of going down there to do a little camping and fishing. Does anybody know of any good places to camp that are reasonably close to fishing?

The south santiam has been putting out summers. I havent fished it n a week or so.
As for camping, If you are a K.O.A. member there is a campground in Sweet Home. I would reccomend Sunnyside campground on Foster Lake. Its about 5 miles from wiley creek where everyone banl fishes. If you have a driftboat bring it.
e-mail me for more info is interested

Thanks for responding to my post. I would appreciate any information you can give me on the south santiam river. I actually have never fished it. I was down there last summer for a family reunion and got a chance to check it out. I was very impressed with the number of steelhead at the hatchery. I want to take my family down there next week to do some camping and my son and I will go fishing. I have a driftboat, but it's out of commission at the moment. So I was thinking about taking my cataraft down to get away from some of the crowds. Could you tell me the best place to put in and a good place to take out? Thanks again for the info.

You can put your catacraft in at Wiley creek, wich is across the river from the hatchery. You take out at pleasant valley bridge. You cant miss the take out, its a steep paved ramp.
I havent been on the river in a ahile, but I will get some info and post a report in the next day or 2.
To get to Sunnyside campground Head east out of Sweet Home on Hwy. 20. You will be on the south shore of foster lake. Take a left at the upper end of the lake Where a Sign says Green Peter Resivoir. Cross both bridges and it is on the left about 1/2 mile past the 2nd bridge.
