What is the difference between a pole setup for sturgeon fishing and a pole setup for salmon fishing? Assuming that a person will be fishing from a boat in both cases.

It just depends on which Sturgeon fishery you are planing on. Estuary fishing this time of year you can go with your Salmon gear(8'6' med-med hvy rod/20-30# line) as this is basically a keeper show in shallower water. Oversize fishing in the gorge requires heavier gear(my choice-Tiger rods40-60# line weight spooled with 80# Tuff Line Plus on Penn GTI 320's or 330's) as these are some big and unbelievably strong fish. You will also use lead weights up to 48oz. Hope this answers some of your questions. TIGHT LINES AND GOOD FISHING!!!!

I've got a Ugly Stik Tiger 20-50 with Penn 320 GTI and 50lb Maxima line. I'm happy with it for the keeper and shaker sturgeon I've used it on. Not really interested in going after oversize on purpose.
Just wonder if this setup is practical to use for Buoy 10 salmon fishing or if I need to change some things.

For what its worth,i thing 50lb line line is overkill for salmon maybe thirty at the most.I fish for sturgeon at bonniville dam at the deadline and high bank on the washington side and up in the estuary off the bank and all I use is thirty lb line.I have landed a 12ft sturg. on this line at bonniville,so I know it works fine.I've landed several large fish on this wt. line.Just for your info,I order my line thru Bass Pro,its called Premimum EXCELL,you get 900 yds for $5.95 if you order more then one spool.Theres a couple diff. colors but,I don't thing sturgeon care about the color.
I think its reall stren under a differant name.BUT THE PRICE IS RIGHT.I do use 80lb tuff line in my boat tho.? http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif
