I read on the WDFW website that lake Washington will be closed to sport fishing during certain days of the month to allow tribal commercial fishing. i think that this is a bunch of ******** because they didn't help with salmon recovery efforts and they have the lake all to themselves. the goverment already gives them enough support with the welfare checks they send the indians.

fishslayer,
I know this isn't what you want to hear but if it were not for for the Mucklshoot tribe we would not have had this season or the one in 1996. The state stopped counting these fish at the Ballard Locks and the Tribe payed to put a person in there to do the counts. I have grown up here in Renton and we have fished Sockeye since the early 70's. The Tribe is one of the biggest supporters of a spawning channel here on the Cedar River. most of the folks around here that I know that fish don't have a problem sharing these fish with the tribe. Also, these fish are not native to this river. They were put in here by the Renton Sportsman's Club back in the 30's. Our family was part of the group that helped bring them in. We used to bash the tribes for coming in here but not anymore.

fishslayer,
Let me be the first to let you know that we do not tolerate racism or foul language on this board. Go back to Bob's Board if you want to post that gargabe.
Second of all, you sound like another angry sportfisherman who's been "cut off" from YOUR fish. I am honestly not familiar with WA fish issues but is sounds like Outlaw knows what he's talking about. You don't know the facts, you just want to use this fishery to point ANOTHER finger at the Native Americans.
Be careful or the man we call the Board **** will have a word with you!

Agreed, The Tribe does help manage this fishery. Closing the lake to sporties during the Tribal harvest makes sense because of gear conflicts. How many THOUSANDS of boats were out fishing on the opener? That many boats, plus gill nets? Not gonna work. Better to keep the fisheries separate.
An alternative might be to keep the two fisheries in separate parts of the lake, but boaters traversing water and the invariable anglers that don't bother to check the regs before coming out....

A interesting point to consider. Are the indians entitled to 50% of the fish if they are not native? We have allowed this to occur, but should we? Has it been challenged in court? Just wondering if anybody has some insight.
