I am on a 3 day R&R from my two week flyfishing trip. We spent most of the last week at the Deschutes (near maupin). The fishing was hot. I caught the biggest trout i have ever caught before. It was a little over 20 inches. Small caddis and mayflies worked best in the mornings and evenings. Small haresear nymphs and caddis emergers worked good during the hot part of the day, and untill the sun went down. There was no sign of the salmonfly hatch. I think we just missed it by a couple days. Saw a few green drake hatches in the afternoons, and big caddis hatches in the evenings. There were a couple pale morning duns, and other mayfly hatches midday.
Im leaving tomorrow for the metolius for another week. Anyone fish it lately knows whats working? IS the salmonfly hatch still going strong over there. I should have my trip pictures developed when i get back, and ill post em.
Ill post again after i get back, and let everyone know how the fishing is.

Oh, to be young and free again...
Reminds me of a trip I took when I was your age, and had just graduated. I packed my fly rod and camping gear on the back of a motorcycle, and took off. Treasure these times Evan! When you get older and start to collect responsibilities, you will look back on them.
