My girl friend got me a clear plastic prop bait from GI Joes a couple days ago because it was cheap. I dont own any other clear baits and I was wondering, How well do they work?

I have some clear senkos, and they work great for stained or muddy water.

I have a couple of clear topwater baits that work great in realy clear water or when the sun is up. I stick with darker baits in stained of muddy water.

I used to use a clear Zara Spook, the larger ones with 3 trebles... It seemed to work well on bright days with nice shiny hooks and high visibility water.

A lot of my topwater "hard" baits are clear or light colored.
Although I have a couple froggy colored popper/chug's or whatever you call them. I'll admit, I'm LM ignorant so I have no opinion on how well they do. But that's why I have them, the only way to become un-ignorant is to fish'em!
Right now for me "walking the dog" means just that, taking the Lab out.
While we're on the subject of prop baits, how do ya'll work them? I found this: "Catching Hawgs on Top" (http://outdoorstore.espn.com/servlet/catalog.CFPage?&mode=article&objectID=30040&cat=&s ubcatID=0&objectType=article) But I'm curious what others think.
Topwater is a weak area for me.

I'm a big fan of the Zara Spook family in general and prefer lighter baitfish colors. With practice (which I'm still learning), you can walk them to one side or the other rather than just back and forth in the standard "walk the dog" pattern. There was a pretty good article in Bassmaster a few months ago about it. Other than that, I love throwing buzzbaits for big fish and smallies love the tiny torpedo.

how does this walking them to one side or the other differ from the walk the dog tenique?

I believe if you let it glide and reel up the slack, a quick flick to the side is supposed to do it. Still a bit tricky for me!

Clear lures question:
I fished a tourenment (non-boater) in Boardman (Columb. River) about 3 years ago and the guy who landed the biggest stringer (21 lb of smallies) fished a clear crankbait in the 'gin' clear water. It was amazing b/c everyone else was useing natural colors like craw, shad, etc. The second day of the tournement the water was muddy and he only came in with 2-3 small fish he caught off plastics; he said his clear crankin bite was worthless.
Since then I've always thrown clear or translucent colors in clear water. I've done really well with them.
