I want to install a flasher unit on my boat. I already have a tranducer and speed wheel in place on the right side of the transom. Suggestion on where to place the flasher transducer, on the opposite side (Lf) between the kicker motor and the main or should I place it next to the other transducer? Thanks Mooch

You'll want to check what frequencies your flasher and fishfinder run at. If they're close to the same frequency then you need as much separation as possible between the transducers, and even then you might get interference and only be able to run them one at a time. If the frequencies are fairly widely separated you'll likely be able to run them simultaneously even if they're right next to each other, but you'll still want the cables to run as far from each other as possible to avoid induced interference. Just to be on the safe side I usually mount my second transducer on the opposite side of the boat.

Thanks Starfish, I was wondering if there could be a possible prob. between units. Guess it will get mounted on the opposite side. Kudo's Mooch

I, too, have a flasher unit in addition to my main fishfinder. I find it useful when docking in tight quarters when I don't want to be distracted by anything other than the actual depth under me. ("Well, let me check my depth here...oh, was that a fish?" Crash.) Don't want to go there! And, of course, it does serve as a back-up, though only in water less than 199 feet deep in my case. Once you are used to it you really can tell a lot about what is under you with an old-style flasher! I've never had a problem, but in my case the flasher is close enough to 200 khz that I could not run it at the same time as my old fishfinder without causing "running rabbits". It doesn't affect my new fishfinder, but since I never have a reason to run them both at the same time, it really wouldn't matter if it did affect it. Larry
