I'm test driving a new NR Seahawk tommorow and its a 2006 with a brand new 2006 Yamaha 150 4 stroke. The dealer doesn't have any demo boats so we'll be driving the one I may end up buying. They just finished rigging the boat this afternoon. I don't plan on hammering the snot outta it,but want to know how well it performs and handles.
Will treating a new motor with no hours on it like this be harmful? If it is I surely don't want to buy the boat with this motor on it. Of course the saleman says break-in is overrated.
What would you do?

Break in is NOT overrated. Look in the Yamaha manual for proper procedures. Down the road, if a problem comes up with the engine they can plug in a reader and tell it you followed proper break in. If you dont, guess what, no warranty coverage.

You will love your new seahawk, I just took delivery today of a 21' 200hp we took it out for a little run this afternoon and I am already in love. Throw out the bench seats and have 2 seats on 4 leg pedestals put in, talk about having room.

Man... I'd wonder who else he's driving around in this boat without a good break-in. My 150 just cost too much to be screwing around. My wife gave me the business because I wouldn't stop mid-break-in to let her out.
If it's not full paint, GET IT SHARKHIDED before it gets dipped!!!!!! Also, I agree that the break in must be important or WHY would YAMAHA include a specific section in the manual on how to do it???? Drive it, maybe buy it but ask for another engine?!?!

The Sharkhide is a factory option at almost $700. Full paint is only $755. I'm going to have this boat a long time and I'll probably opt for the paint. If you're going to spend $35K whats another $755?

Have GBS put the clear vinyl film on it. We have full paint and still had that put on to protect it from scratches and going down the road.
