View Full Version : Minn kota bow mount motors
I am looking at getting a bowmount motor, but am not sure how much mounting space they require on the bow. In the front of my alumaweld (16 foot) there is only about 10" of space up front. Would it be possible to mount one with that little of space? I need to actually measure the exact amount of space but am just curious if you can mount them with minimal room. I had a transom mount until it broke and am looking for a new motor.
thanks for any input :applause:
Make a trip up to Stevens Marine in Tigard and look at a boat similar to yours and see how they would mount the motor. Stevens did mine when I bought my 17.5' Smoker from them, they had to mount the plate in such a way that I could also have a bow roller and jamb-cleat for the anchor rope. It all works fine.

not a bad idea... maybe ill just take the boat over and talk to them about it. I would really like to not have to a transom mount motor.

Oh how many hours have I sat and stared at my boats trying to figure out the best way to mount the bowmounts!!!!
It's never an easy decision. Bowmounts pull best if mounted on the centerline of the hull. But that's right in the way for the bowlight socket, anchor bracket, bow chak, clam cleat, etc, etc.
Finally I said heck with it and moved the light socket off to the side and mounted the removable mounting plate in such a way that the center of the shaft in near the centerline of the hull AND when the bowmount is in the stowed position the shaft runs down the side of the boat bow so I can still walk around the bow area.
I used one of the old style MinnKota removable mounts and the top plate is nothing more that a peice of 1/4" plate. So I made a second plate that I mounted my anchor bracket on and I can choose to put either the big anchor on or the bowmount. ie, am I sturgon/salmon fishing or walleye/bass fishing today??
