.. as mine swing past each other there's about 1/2" of space, (if one should place a thumb over the end, the oars will squeeze it). The boat came this way, the oars have oar rights on them so I never bothered to try anything different ??. One of my front seaters noticed that other boats had more space, I have yet to look so I'm asking now... How much space is there one your boat, what would you recomend.
I don't seem to have any trouble ( other than a flatened thumb a long time ago )?? Just wondering

spinner53,
I asked a similar question last fall, and received some great answers. Do a search in November 2005. Sorry, I don't know how to post the link to the thread.

Most folks have the oars set up to not row against the oar stops. So you can roll the oars or adjust your hand position. I have oar rites on mine, but they are located at the top of the wraps so they arent used for rowing, just for holding the oars straight at anchor.

This should be a personal thing. I like mine with about 4-6" between the handles, but I have wide shoulders.

I like mine to be about 12"-15" apart when they are against the oar stops. That makes it more comfortable for me, and I can pull 1 or both oars in a little to avoid rocks, limbs etc. and not worry about pinching my thumbs in between the oar ends. I learned the hard way very many years ago, OUCH!!!
