Have read some of thge other threads concerning this.

The boat is a 15" Alaskan. WOuld be used for trolling only and will be used in the CR and lakes and possibly some tidewater.

Thought about a 4stroke kicker but the electric would open up some lake waters too.

Is 70lb 24v enough or would I need 101lb 36v. I see the 101 riptide as enticing but can be spendy. Will it troll all day ~6-8hrs?

Any info/experiences including dealers/pricing can be pm'd if unable to post here.

Thanks in advance.

If you have the battery space and the cash, Riptide 101 all the way!

Both! for the $1200 bucks the 101 riptide cost me to get all set up (motor, batteries & charger) you would be better off buying a used 6-15 hp 2 stroke kicker for $800-$1000 and a cheap 44-50lb 12v minn kota. Of course that depends on how much you plan on fishing electric only lakes. Basicly the 101 is awsome for some things, but it sucks compared to my 6hp 2 stroke in almost every way. If I could use my gas everywhere i would...

The 101 i have will troll all day with ease. but when you crank it up to full power to get anywhere it sucks down the batteries pretty quick. I used to use a 44lb 12v endura and with a good battery it will go 6 hours slow trolling. But if its your only motor you will wish you had more!

BTW i think the 2 stroke is the way to go for a kicker for a small boat for trolling or backtrolling, low speed throttle adjustments on the 4 stroke suck

Right now I use a 4hp on my 16fter...I believe I'm moving up to a Merc 6hp 2 stroke, shift in the handle motor soon.

My 2 stroke, 4hp 2Cyl Evinrude motor only weighs about 30-35lbs, then add 2-6 gallons of gas aint that much.
This Merc 2 stroke, 6hp 2cyl motor only weighs what? 60-70lbs?

A good 12v battery is gonna weigh close to that. Your gonna need 3 of them for that 101...and 2 for the 74..

I have the 46lb 12vt electric and hate it when theres any moving water.

Do what SeanD says and get both! A small gas kicker and a 55lb thrust 12v electic
