Could any sure a little info on when and where a good crappie spot would be for a shore bound fisher? Something in the willamette or NW zone would be preferred. Any Crappie action going on now?

Thanks for the help.

Try Vernonia Lake. It has all the warmwater species.

Crappie isnt good at Vernonia, they are all tiny.. Dorman pond has better then Vernonia and even better, Hagg is great in the back pockets around the shrubs and all that.

What's going to happen with crappie at Fern Ridge resevoir this year? Anything? While it was at low pool, did everything go on down the Long Tom? I live in Florence now and can't keep tabs on it, but I would appreciate news of any sucess at all. I love that place and it just kills me to think that I might have to wait a couple years for the stocks to build back up. True, there are lots of Black Crappie here on the coast, but they're generally stunted.

Fern Ridge did get drawn down pretty low but still had plenty of water in the pool near the dam, so I would think that plenty of fish survived, but who knows??? BUT from driving around it while the water was low I could see that the entire lake bed grew up with grasses, etc., so I would think that would help the fish population by providing cover for young fish and possibly additional insects etc. for forage??? I am no biologist but that would be my guess. It has been full again now for at least a month, maybe giving fish an opportunity to spread out and find food? Anyone else have input on that theory or am I all wet?

:yeahthat:If you go to Snake/Powder make sure you take your fish coolers and a good filet knife. We usually do best from May on. The big boys come in near the banks from april on depending on weather and water temp. When it gets to be around mid June it's tougher from the bank and I would advise you get a boat or a friend with a boat. Also, From the mid June on it's really difficult to ignore the smallies and fish "specks".We have many 100+ fish days during that time frame (gotta add we're fishing the boat then).
