Materials:

Head Cement
Fly tying Vise
Marabou
Zap a Gap CA
Heavy Duty thread & Bobbin
Sharp X-acto Knife
Jig Heads

Start off by adding one small drop of CA just behind the head of the jig, then wrap your thread over the CA and go about 1/8" down the shank. By gluing the thread to the shank of the hook creates a solid base to keep the Marabou from spinning around on the shank while tying.

Now spin the hook into the upside down position and bring thread as close to the head as possible. Be very carefull with the hook in this position, I've stabbed myself repeatably with the hook point being up like this.

Take a single piece of Marabou and pinch from the bottom of the quill and slide your fingers back toward the tip of the feather.

Now lay the feather onto the shank while still keeping it pinched. Wrap 3 semi tight wraps as close to the jig head as possible while leaving a tag end to pull on. You will then pull the tag end of the feather until the tip of the feather is about a 1/2" from the bend of the hook. If you can not pull the feathers then your semi tight wraps are too tight. Once feather is in place add several tight wraps to hold feather. Using a sharp X-acto blade trim the tag end from jig head area. I usually lay my blade as close to the wraps as possible then press against the jig head to cut.

Now rotate the jig back to the normal position and repeat the last step.

Now start your finishing wraps at about 1/8" back from the head and wrap toward the head. Tie your knot and add a nice layer of head cement. Your done!

For those of you in the swap, this is exactly how I tie my jigs (the 1/4 ounce orange/white one you'll receive). The collars are a bit thicker on mine because I use two plumes on the top and two on the bottom, which causes a bit more bulk.

Also, I pluck the very tips (like 1/2 inch) out of the Marabou plumes so there is no stem. I have no idea why I do this--the fish don't care. It just seems right to me.

CM ties a really nice jig, doesn't he?

I generally use Owner or Daiichi Hooks and I pour my own lead heads.

Thanks

That's my secret Powder Coat color . These colors are the new Candy (Transparent) colors. What I did first was dip the head into Pearl White then quickly dip it again in the Candy color.
