I have spoken today to 2 influential people that are right in the political arena over salmon recovery and allocation. Their positions are so sensative that they requested anonymity (they are well known around the N.W. and they will reveal themselves at an appropriate time after the current political process concludes). They both encouraged committment to the rally at Cascade Locks town park (& Char Burger)this Sat. at 10:00 to noon. However, they WARNED NOT TO HAVE A PROTEST TYPE RALLY that could be mis-interpreted by the Native Americans or TV news media as being either anti-Indian or even anti-netting! They indicated that we CAN definitely benefit by a peaceful PRO-SPORTFISHING RALLY with signs asking for an opportunity for a selective (fin clipped) sport quota on the abundance of Col. springers both this year, and importantly, next spring on the even bigger run. Please read all thru 3 post threads for latest developements and suggestions (for signs, reasons, etc.): "SAT. PROTEST RALLY" (not a protest now), "Right intentions but...", and "censorship?". Thanks for your support! Hope to see ALL of us there. Go sportfishers! - Steve

I think this makes a lot more sense. Now we should be able to get "our" message out without looking like doeheads. We will have to watch for rogue sporties bent on causeing trouble though...

RT,
Someday I would like very much to get together with you and discuss in depth the WAA and where I see it heading. I sense a reasonable head and one with input obviously willing to change direction. I am glad to see the rally...I sincerely hope that it come off as you envision it...please be aware that as Barn said there are some loose cannons out there that have been aimed at the tribe for a long time waiting for something like this. The reality is that we need solid representation in all facets of fish and fish management...that is the ultimate goal of the WAA.

Let me know if you would like to get together. Email me at runwildrivers@yahoo.com

Thanks,

Jim
