Yesterday afternoon, I saw a guy emptying a big, wheeled, garbage can full of water into a storm drain. The storm drain runs straight into the river, no filtering or treatment, remember this. The guy's van said it was an Aquarium Service company. So, it wasn't hazardous waste, just aquarium water. With fish poo, maybe some fish eggs, or a fish or two, and probably some exotic aquatic weed scraps. :passout: I'm thinking this wasn't a good thing to do, and I should report it. Do you agree? To what governement agency should I report it? C&R, Steve
Edit: I would be perfectly fine with it, if the guy was pumping the aquariums into the toilet or sink. I'm mostly worried about the weed situation. About all our waters have milfoil infestation. This is how it happens!

WDFW or local Sheriff, I imagine. It should be reported since it had a fair chance of being tainted water, waste, chlorine-heavy, etc...

If I were you I would contact the owner or manager of the company first.

I work at a wastewater treatment plant. At the office we have people that oversee/monitor what goes into the river from storm drains. At municipalities they are refered to as ; Storm Water Techs, or Pretreatment Techs.
I know from personal experience that for instance you CAN dump water from your hot tub down the storm drain, provided it has been dechlorinated for 1 week and has no residual, also has to be cool water, i.e. no dumping of hot water down the catch basin.
Call the local Wastewater plant.

Dumping it on the lawn would make more sense, lotta nitrogen. Ya, call the owner and share your concern. Probably never crossed thier mind as a problem. If they work with aquariums they have got to be fish lovers.

As much rain as we've had in the last two months, that's not even a consideration! :help:
After a couple days of playing phone tag with the Auburn, WA Municipal Wastewater Supervisor, I got to talk to him on the phone today. He was most interested, thanked me for being observant and a good citizen. Not sure what will happen from here, as it gets turned over to some enforcement folk...Auburn CSI, sorta. Cowboy boots and rain slickers, tho.
Yeah, I knew I was going to rat the guy out, but wanted to get some opinions, maybe get youse guys to think about this sort of violation and keep your eyes open during your everyday routine. :yeahthat: C&R, Steve
