The Washington regs say you can fish below the hatchery on the Wind R. for steelhead after June 1. 15 years ago I did this and "incidentally" caught some nice chinook on a fly, but I though it was in May. Is this still possible to do? With the hefty run this year I thought it might be worth a try.

Definitely should be worth it this year! Check the Y2K regs. Along with the upper Sandy, that is one place that you will likely run into Jim Teeny using his polarized sunglasses to split shot drift his nymphs to snag springers in the mouth http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif . The fish will also occassionally bite them. I'd try sinktip drifting then swinging some attractor salmon & steelhead flies too.
