I have a hard time casting those heavy weights . So I take a crab pot float and rope and on the float put a downrigger release. Snap in the bait and weight and float it back where I want it. A quick jerk and it falls right where I want it !!

Good idea especially if you are using lots of weight.

I have seen lots of the guides do this at bonneville. I started doing this last year after watching the guides.
