Went to Netarts Bay today for a clamming trip and was succesful with digging our limit of 24 gapers. The weather was absolutely perfect. While digging we found just under the surface a large snail weighing approx. a pound. I have never seen these before. Can anyone identify these and give me some info? We were digging several mile up the bay from the boat launch, just a little west of Wee Willies.

Thanks. COME ON SPRINGERS!!!!!

We clammed @ Newport thursday and got three limits of gapers and cockles. Also picked up three nice red rocks trapped in tidepools (love those minus tides). I heard those big snails are good eating, but i'll never know... Joe

I have seen the snail you describe. I heard they are deadly to the clams and will eventually spread heavy losses to the clam population. I do not know if the story I heard is true or not. It is hard to believe a clam can be eaten by a snail. I have seen hundreds of these snails at a time in the bay.

I did have the BOOK and the regs say 20 clams which only 12 can be gapers. I was clamming with my wife so we each dug 12. Any way I went by the book. Have a great day!

The message did say "OUR"....which means more than one. How do you cook them?
