I am planning to go to the trask for steelhead this weekend, and all through the rest of the summer. I have caught a few fish there in July and August using crawdad tails and hotshots. Can anyone give me some advice about techniques to use, and when to use them?!?! I would really appreciate it. Also, if anyone has done any good on the trask flyfishing for steelhead, I would love to hear about it!!! Thanks a whole lot!
Tight lines!! Evan

Hey Evan, I'm not to keen on the Trask for summers, but I can tell you if you are willing to drive another 20 minutes to the Nestucca, it has a great run of summer fish. Best spot for bank angling is at the mouth of Three Rivers located about 1/4 mi south on 101 out of Hebo. Best time is around the last week of June and all through July. The water is usually pretty low and clear that time of year, so it's pretty much an first-light, last-light scenario. A good bet is Bud's spinners in nickle on bright days and bronze on overcast days. Use light line and long leaders if you want to drift-fish, 6# or 8# will do the job. Remember, there is no bait that time of year, artificials only. If you need more specific info, stop in at Nestucca Valley Sporting Goods in Hebo and talk to the owner, Ron Byrd for more specifics. GOOD LUCK ! -Marty
