The flies look great! As a side note: all I had was some crappy head cement (zap-a-gap dried up), so I would suggest adding some adhesive to the head. Sorry!

Thanks for the flies everyone

Got mine today. Cool flies everyone! This was a learning experience as it was my first time tying tube flies. I can see some real advantages to using them. The only bad thing about this swap is now I need to invest in a rotary vise!

So Stew, how do you fish a reverse spider? Do you just swing it, or do you give it some twitches to make the hackle pulse (or legs in this case)?

Thanks for running the swap.

Yes

Actually I just swing it like you would a wet fly. It's been my experience that SRC don't need the enticement of a twitch.

Yeah, but I have a feeling it might really PO a steelhead!

Hooked one steelhead on a spider on a 3 weight and he was gone real fast :bigshock:

Hey stew I hooked a 7lb hen this tuesday morning on that black tube fly. I got mine from a fly shop though. I don't know how to tie them yet. I was swinging it on a typ 6 sink tip. Its 0006 am And I just finished the last bite of her. Cheers Rich

Hey Gottafish, don't you know it's unhealthy to eat late at night?

Just kiddin' ya. Glad somebody's getting some fish!

Yep, But when you work nights its not late. LOL I went down to the river in the morning after I got the kids off to school and tossed a few. To be honest the only reason I used that fly and sink tip was because the wind was wipping prety good and I couldn't fish my normal set up. Kind of changed my mind about tube fly's.

Ah, another nightshifter! I just finished "lunch" myself about an hour ago.

I'm looking forward to giving tubes a shot. I like that if the hook gets dulled, straightened or broken, you don't have to throw the fly away. And being the cheap SOB that I am I like that I don't have to shell out $6 for a box of hooks every time I tie a batch of flies. I also like using smaller, short-shanked hooks as they seem to hook quicker and hold better.

Nice flies you guys.

This has prompted me to run out and get the necessary equipment to tie in this manner. Im thinking you could tie some deadly stones with this set up.

I can't wait to tie some more and actually fish these things. I have been reading so much about them and am thankful that Stew put this swap together.

I tied some saltwater ones last summer for coho and did quite well in the dory on the big blue. (OK I caught three, but it's a big ocean right?) At the time never really thought about the freshwater applications with smaller flies.

If you guys want some info about the saltwater ones let me know. Also, my local fly shop only has the plastic tubes, but I love the brass eta al aluminum ones I received through the swap. The web search on tubes is pretty slim. Hopefully someone has a local source.

Anyways, cheers and Clacksteel no worries about the head cement, the fly looks great and I'm sure will fish awesome.

Make a run north to Anglers Workshop in Woodland. They have all kinds of tube fly materials and even vice adapters. The one thing I hate about tubers is the spinning in the vice. I don't have the best set up in the world and the darn things spin if i don't crank it down and then I can hardly get the stinking thing out. There have been several times I've wanted to do this :smash: to the darn thing.

A local fly shop off of NE Halsey also has a resonable supply of tubes.

Here's another photo of our flies. I just got around to taking photos of several groups of flies from swaps I've been in.
