Hi!

I live on the olympic penninsula up here in WA but I went to Oregon St. University for 5 years back in the 80's. While attending OSU, I fished the Santiams alot in the summer-especially the North Santiam.

The ole brain pan is a little foggy on the boat access to and from green bridge as it's been about 12 years.

Would anyone be willing to share where to put in if I were taking out at green bridge AND where to take out if I was putting in at green bridge-seems this was the town of Jefferson but I'm not sure.

One more thing, I know one of the upper floats is/was a ***** with class 3-4 rapids. Which is it?

Any info. would be appreciated-I'll do the rest.

And don't worry, I'm not one of those damn "out-of-staters" whose going to invade your teritory all summer. I will be down there for a week in July and just wanted to get re-acquainted with some water I used to enjoy a great deal.

Thanks.

Hi Eric, Glad to have you join us. I am particularly interested in fishing a little on the Oly. Penn someday when I can get the chance. I dislike the "out-of-stater" or "flatlander" 'tudes that some ignorant people have. I consider myself a Northwesterner as I consider everyone in the NW. All the rivers are for all people so come on down & catch some fish! Now if you're from California stay the heck out of here!(jk) The tougher run I think you are refering to is putting in at Packsaddle Park, or perhaps Fishermen's Bend. These are challenging sections for experienced oarsman with good equipment but they are not uppermost class whitewater. I think the launch to Green's BR. near Jefferson is up at Mehema. Hope Joe S. or other's from that area will see your post & come thru.- There are only a few late winters & early summers in there now, but in a few weeks it should heat up for summers & springers. Good luck. - Steve

Eric, if you want to take out at Greens
Bridge you can put in at Stayton or the
old Shelburn rail road site. Just
remember that it can get pretty hairy
below Shelburn if you take the wrong
channel at the old log jam. I don't know
how to tell you the right channel as i
haven't done it in a couple of years. If
you put in at Greens Bridge you take out
at Jefferson or the Freeway rest area.
Most of the upper floats have some bad
water but the fishermans bend run is not
to bad if you have some experience behind
the oars. Good luck in July and tight
lines!

RT and Fishnfool:

Thanks for the info.! You pretty much answered my questions.

RT......I'm a regular on Bob Ball's board up here on the peninsula. I'm impressed with your site here-very professional looking. I knew you had a similar one starting down here so I just had to check it out.

I'm sure you will find this board getting as busy as Bob's up north once everyone down here learns of it. Keep up the good work.

You should come up and fish the peninsula some time-I don't think you will be dissapointed. Beautiful rivers with big, nasty natives!

Eric. Thanks for your comments. The professional look is all Jennie's great work. She really knows her website tech; not just how to fish. Someday when I am able to go I would love to fish the Oly Penn!! If not this summer, then next winter steelhead season. Keep us posted. - Steve
