Greetings All,I've been checking out this site for some time now an decided to introduce myself,I live in Olympia and fish all of S.W. Washington and the Coast,I fish from a 12 cataraft that I built myself (exept the tubes I bought them) they are made by Wing inflateables The best in my opinon.I fish salmon and steelhead mostly and practice C&R and have for 5 years now.I build frames for catarafts in my spare time ( when I'm not fishing )I built about a 1/2 dozen frames last year,I'm not in it for the bucks just keeps me out of trouble. So if I can be of any assistance please let me know.
Thanks Again Take Care http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey Steelheader Boy, glad to see you lurking here from Bob's site. If you come down to Oregon, this is the site to ask questions.

Can I save any $$$ building my own cat? How would cats work out in saltwater bays? Would the barnacales tear them up?
Thanks, Dusty

Sure you can save money building you're own boat ,the tubes you have to buy but the frame you can make ,most frames range in price from $350.00 for a small basic frame to $1200.00 for a full blown fishing frame with stand up platform ,thigh brace ,anchor system etc, depending on the shop making it ,I,ve seen frames made from several materials ranging from cedar to 2" aluminum with speedrail fitting,my fames are built from galvanized steel tubing ,I bend all the radius and weld it together. As far as salt water I know a lot of people use their cats in the salt to play on the waves,I would recomed a quality urathane tube with a bottom chafe ( an extra layer of material to add more protection ).Size is the issue ,most of the small cats are very limited in what you can do with them and of course how much you can haul. It comes down to how much bucks do want to spend, invest in quality set of tubes and the frame is only limited by you're imagination....Good Luck
