Bottom fishing seems to better than the springer fishing right now. My buddies and I ran three boats out of newport and fished anywhere from 1 to 7 miles south of the jetties. All boats brought back some nice fish. Our boat brought in 36 rockfish, mostly blacks with some blues, quillback, copper, and one canary, 1 nice cabezon (another boat brought in 4 cabbies) and 5 keeper lings. Ocean was great all day except for crossing the bar on the way back in with a strong outgoing tide http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. Looking foward to doing this one again... Hey, Salmonator. Nobody seems to care about bottomfish right now. They all got Spring(er) Fever. They will be within our casting range next week I think. See you on the river. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

yea, I know. I went back out two days after that last bottomfishing trip and we had our 30 blacks for the three of us by noon. Not as exciting as a springer but I have a freezer full of seabass!!! Joe
