Canada is a fantastic place to go for Fly Fishing.
There's a guy at work that goes there every year in September after the first freeze. He says the fishing gets better, Less people and the biting bugs are all dead. There are hundreds of Lakes. Down in the South East Corner of B.C. there's lots of Desert steams not unlike the Deschutes, Crooked river and many of the Montana rivers.
One that I know of is the St. Mary's river.
So have any of you been to these places to fish ?
Do you have a favorite destination lake or river you could share info about ? I have some lakes on Vancouver Island that are very remote and full of trout that I have fished. But I haven't fished the mainland since I was still in Grade School.....

I wish I did. On the way up to Tahsis last summer we drove by several lakes. No one was fishing them yet I spotted fish rising and wished there was time to stop and drop a fly.

I've never fished the interior before, but the Harrison is a blast to fish for Chums, Chinooks and Coho. I caught my first fly caught salmon there. On a pink year, you'll catch a fish on every cast.

I try to get to Canada at least once a year. I am a lake fisherman and rarely fish steams anymore.
The area that I have fished the most is in the Kamloops region, but man has that areas population grown.
From the town of Merritt on the south to Clearwater on the NE and Williams Lake on the NW. Thousands of Lakes from big to little.
I tend to stop at Leighton Lake in the Tunkwa Lake Provincal Park, about 15 miles NW of the town of Logan Lake.
BC has really taken the lead in lake fishing development, they turned it over to a non profit group made up of fine folks. Brian Chan, retired fish biologist, author, fly fisher and all around fine guy, heads it up.
They are planting Triploids in many of the lakes. These are steril fish, that make incredible growth. I caught one last year at Leighton Lake, it was longer than the tape measure printed on my pontoon boat which runs to 28". I put it back to get a bit more size.
I fish it early and late and have for 35 years. I just wish I lived closer and had more time and $$.
If you are interested, a fishing forum run by a really fine guy out of Williams Lake, is a great place to get a lot of information and help. Fishbc.com
The rivers and streams in BC are heavily regulated, most are closed until about mid July for trout, and have mixed seasons for Steelhead and Salmon.

Being born in BC, I have done a little fishing in the south east corner and the interior. There are lots of great places to fish within an 8 hour drive from Portland. One place I want to fish is Corbett Lake, just outside of Merritt BC and a 7 hour drive. the lake is stocked with "trophy rainbows" and is fly fishing only. They do a fly fishing retreat / seminar every year that is supposed to be one of the best around. I have fished the Elk river outside of Fernie, that is worth every penny you spend and have fished the Columbia just above Trail BC, another spot I highly recommend.

Hmmmm, it might be fun to have an Ifish Flyfish trip to canada. Heck, my dad would drive to Canada with frinds to, of all things, golf .
