I had my first successful day of winter steelhead fishing! The conditions weren't the greatest (a rising river and limited visibility), but the result was a nice, fat 29 3/4" chrome native winter steelhead buck. Caught it on a flame orange eggo (the fly I tied for the swap). This was the hardest fighting fish I've caught on a fly rod to date. After a half dozen reel screaming runs, and too many jumps to count, I was finally able to bank it for a picture.

I thought you were supposed to be studying for finals? At least that's the excuse you gave for not having your flies done for the tube swap! And yet you can find time for fishing, - I see how it works, hmmm...
Andy, please disqualify CS for shirking his responsibilities. We don't want the winter steelhead challenge to contribute to the delinquency of this young man.
OK, I'm just totally jealous because I haven't fished since OCTOBER AND I'M STARTING TO GET CRANKY!!!!!!!!!!!
Good going Justin! :applause:

Nice fish
I am glad you started another thread in addition to the challenge thread so I could congratulate you. I speak from experience that fishing with Andy is a pleasure and very helpful in finding steelhead.
Coastal streams are an unpleasant drive for me so the high water keeps me on Eagle Creek. It's clear but fast with a lot of water keeping the fish spread out. I have a tape measure just like Andy's and am now looking for a 30 incher for January.

Nice work. I would love to get out and find some fish but I just have no idea where I can go that's not blown out. If you feel generous CS I would love a nudge in the right direction by PM.

Did you get it swinging or indicator?
Since Clacksteel is busy studying for school and tying tube flies for Stew , I'll answer for him:
He was nymphing with an indicator.

Is that a fly rod in your waders or are you just...
The pic has an odd placed reflective dot in your groin. I couldn't resist.
