I'm coming back to town in two weeks and hope to go fishing for steelhead on the coast with tackle, but if it's blown out I'd like to throw a fly for some trout.

I've fished the Metolius before a few times in college a few years ago, but never had any luck. Other than the Metolius, what are some good "rain-proof" streams, creeks, etc that will most likely not be blown out if the rain keeps up? I'll be in Portland, but won't mind driving to Central Oregon if it's worth it.

Any suggestions??

The only two which come to mind are the Metolius and Crooked. I've heard Fall Creek is usually fishable, but I haven't checked on that one myself. I dont know of anything coastal or in the valley that remains fishable regardless of rain. Lake fed rivers and streams tend to clear the quickest.

Last week the Crooked was real high. They are dumping lots of water out of the res. FYI

Hey Bugle, Is that the trip where "P.S.E" critically injured his pontoon boat with his shotgun?

Yes it was. Amazing what 3" steel does to a toon boat ...Thanks for the salt in the wound.:)

The Fall can fish well in the winter and never really changes flow or color. Just be mindful of the amount of snow you will have to negotiate along the river. There is about 2.5 feet of snow on the ground at this time.

Fall River Guy isn't lying. I was on the Fall this last weekend and it was BEAUTIFUL. But we had to snow shoe in. It was a blast! Be ready to nymph...
