Does anyone know of any fly fishing/tying shows that are currently on TV? I have Direct TV and you would think that out of 600 channels there would have to be something on. For Christ sakes I have seen shows on Noodling and of course there is a plethora of programming pertaining to Bass derbies so there has to be something on fly fishing. Please some one enlighten me to day/time/channel.
Thanks

While I don't remember the name of the program or channel, I ran across a fly tying show one time. Some public access channel I believe. Not the most exciting action, but very educational for the visual learners! If you want a copy of Jim Teeny's fly fishing video, let me know, it's the closest thing I've found to fly fishing TV.

The New Fly Fisher is a unique television series that is all about education. Each season there are 26 new episodes covering everything from smallstream trout strategies to steelhead nymphing techniques. Like the Federation’s mandate, this show is focused on teaching young and old, novice or veteran, all about fly fishing. Each season the themes will be equally split between Saltwater, Warmwater and Coldwater fly fishing. We want to provide fly fishers throughout the USA and Canada with a balanced mix of educational episodes that will help them become better fly fishers for all species, all waters and in all conditions.
Currently the series is being broadcast across the USA & Canada on Public Television stations (check your local listings) as well as several other broadcasters. Keep checking back as we will be announcing an additional national broadcaster for the USA in the very near future!

OPB doesn't currently carry this, but if we made a concerted effort to barrage their programming people, we may be able to get their attention...

fly fish america on OLN is pretty good, same for fly fishing the world. i also watch the spanish fly on espn, though it is not always flyfishing. another fun one is hunt for big fish with larry dahlberg (also on oln). he uses mainly gear, with some fly mixed in but it is always interesting as he fishes for some of the most exotic species around. i've seen him catch some goofy stuff on the fly. OLN used to have fly fish TV as well, but i haven't seen that in a while. oh, also, walker's cay chronicles on espn.
for the record, i don't have time to watch all of these, but with the invention of the DVR you can zip through one, or just delete the ones you don't like. i haven't watched live tv in a year, so i just fill the DVR up with all kinds of fishing shows (and cooking shows for my wife!)

I just sent this message to OPB via their website.
I'd liek to encourage anyone that comes across this to do a similar thing, if the interest is there.
While I am not currently a member of OPB, I realize that this message likely will not hold the weight that it would if I were able to support OPB financially on an annual basis. That said, I am writing to encourage the Programming Director to consider picking up and airing a program that is carried by many other PBS outlets across the country.
The Federeation of Fly Fishers, a group founded in part with the help of several Oregon residents back in 1965, produces a program titled "The New Fly Fisher." I would love to see this program added to OPB's schedule. This program would be an excellent addition to the OPB family and could potentially bring in new membership dollars - an ever-important piece of any non-profit's funding puzzle.
Oregon is a unique place to live, and as an avid angler, I cherish the exceptional heritage of fly fishing in the state and the opportunities available to me to spend time plying my skills in some of the finest fisheries in the entire United States.
By adding "The New Fly Fisher" to the program lineup of OPB, a growing demographic of anglers, will be tuning in and turned on to the benefits that OPB offers to the wider community. I feel this program fits well with the mission and values of OPB and I will look forward to seeing "The New Fly Fisher" airing on OPB.
In closing, I would ask that you take a moment to visit the program's website: http://www.thenewflyfisher.com
One thing I find striking about the program is that they have not spent much time (if any) focused on Oregon... perhaps it's just a coincedence but my feeling is that its more directly related to OPB not airing the program. I sincerely hope that can change in the future.
With thanks for your time and consideration,

there's a new show called "FRIENDS". It's a fresh original show about 5 guys (riverkeeper, lilnorthfork, bluetip, GBS, mark vickers)
who sit around a coffee shop on big cozy couches with lattes and talk about the fish they wish they could catch. It's awesome!! check it out sometime.
I even hear there is a spin off show with one of the characters called "Darian"

I have a suggestion for a name for the show.
" The Pellet heads "
Kind of a spin off of the "Cone Heads" on the old Saturday Night live show.
