fished there today and was unsuccessful. i've fished off the bridge (n. shore) numerous times and was able to fill a 5 gallon bucket half full of fish (crappie, sun fish, blue gill, & the occasional sm). i guess the fishing is only good there at night.

today, lake oswego police drove by and informed me of a prohibition reference some city ordinance. he was nice enough to refer to the tracks. spent almost 30 minutes there with no luck.

can anyone refer me to a better location???
:help:

The railroad tracks is the only public access point on Lake Oswego. It is very hard to access unless you know someone on the lake. The fishing can be pretty good at times there though, so it is better than nothing.

On an interesting side note, when we were remodeling a downstairs storage room we found a bunch of old local newspapers from the early 60's, one had a map of Lake Oswego and some public fishing spots, the only one that is still around is on the railroad tracks.

Yup, I've researched about L.Oswego. You need to own lake-side property, and then pay the lake oswego corporation to get a permit to boat on the Lake :depressed:

that is unfortunate. along north shore is some really good fishing.

I grew up fishing on the lake.

Not sure now is the best time. The high water levels have caused some sewage to spill out. It's even displaced some residence.

Lots of great fishing on the lake. I've personally caught 8lb bass and even trout large trout on the lake. Although, the majority of fish are bluegill, crappie, and bass.

You don't have to live on the lake to have access. Many properties around Lake Oswego city limits come with lake rights. The rights go with the property and were established years ago. 1 house may have rights while another house next door may not.

It is true that you have to pay a special license fee and take a special test before you can have a boat on the lake.

The test is similar to the one required to get your Oregon Boaters permit, but is more specific to the rules set up by the Lake Oswego Corp.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

The last 6 record sunfish have come out of oswego lake, the newest one is 12.6 oz or something like that.

boats02: so it doesn't have to be lake-side property? Wow, I didn't know that. My mom lives in Lake Oswego, I wonder if her property has rights? I better check

Interesting note, Lake Oswego used to be owned by the state. In the mid 1970's Sen. Mark Hatfield was instrumental in having it made private. It is now owned by the Lake Corporation. And now the Lake Corporation has asked the state to help bail them out becuase of poor water quality and pollution issues.

You can read more about it http://www.wweek.com/editorial/3125/6253/

I hope everyone realizes, that lots of our public waters are potentially going to have this happen if we don't stand up about our navigable waters.

You used to be able to fish at Lake O. You paid for stocking it for years. Now, someone else owns it, and would like you to help pay for cleanup.

Hey, the whole Lake Oswego Corporation thing is dumb anyway. The state should get control back from them and open up the marina to anyone willing to pay the fees.

If you live in lake Oswego than you will be pretty close to the willy, any of the local parks there have good access and fishing.

Yes, its hit and miss. My parents live in LO and have access. I live in LO just 1.5 miles down the road and do not.

I may take my boat out later in the summer. If you are interested, I'd take you out and show you some of the good fishing holes.

Look at the "Clackamas County weekly" section in todays Oregonian.

The lake and the corporation that administers the privately owned lake are in the headlines. The Lake Oswego Corporation board of directors are being sued by Lake Oswego property owners. Bad management. Algae problems.

Hello Heather and All:
It hasnt been much reported, but with all the resignations from the State Senate and House. Like Cream-de-Crap, Mr Feriolli is rising to the top!! Sounds like more battles ahead. Mmm-Mmm-,.,..Tasty!!

Yikeys Dave! Thanks for the heads up on the Feriolli news. That man needs to be watched closely. Hell, he wanted to GIVE away all our state rivers just a few years ago. Not even get a dime for it, just give the acreage and property to the adjacent property owner. If he rises in the leadership, what public lands will he propose to give up next?

Sorry that was OT. Back to Lake O.

I read the SW weekly update in the Oregonian too. It missed that point that the lake was public until the 70's although the Lake Corporation controlled the waterfront and a number of launches. They forgot to report that prior to giving up the title of the Lake itself, the public could be there.

I was really shocked and wondered about the Lake Corporation, a for profit corporation, never paying taxes. That seems insane. Now that news is public, they are trying to change their status to non-profit. So, they've owned it, taken money for use of it, and not paid taxes on it? I'd like to know more.
