New to the area and the bas fishing on Green Peter. What is the best way to fish it (next couple of months) and where are the hot spots? Any help you can give me would be appreciated. I just got back from Iraq and my boys want to do some bass fishing out of the new boat.

Thanks

Love Green Peter. Went once and took home a lot of kocanee or however you spell it. I had a fishing friend rigging up the lines so can't tell you the details except was trolling and used canned corn soaked in "stinky stuff". I out fished the heck out of him!
I put em in my smoker...yum.

Thanks for serving. It's great that you are home.

Glad to have you aboard.

Try the first major point east of the bridge. Fish down from there on the south side towards and to the bridge.

Welcome to your first post on Ifish! I have fished for bass at GP and I LIKE it. Lots of LM and I am sure SM but I have yet to catch one. If you are talking about fishing bass the next couple of months there it should be really SLOW for LM until the water warms up a little. I have found them all over the lake wherever I have fished. Generally, fish around any structure-- rocks or wood. There are a lot of stumps at GP with big roots exposed. Bass love 'em. I have caught bass there with 4" curley tail worms, Senkos wacky rigged, crank baits, and anything that looks like a crawdad.

If you are taking your boys bass fishing you should also try Foster Lake. The bass are much thicker and easier to catch. However I don't recommend fishing for bass until spring though as the lake up and down and moving fast, especially where I usually fish it up lake. There are tons of SM, fewer LM, and some spotted at Foster. Look for structure close to deep water, points and along rip rap.

Thank you for serving us in the military. God bless you and your family. :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause:

Jon, what type of lures, techniques do you use for Foster. I fished there a few times back a few years ago and did not
catch anything and gave up on it, guess I have been missing out.

Senkos around the rip rap by the bridges works great in foster.

Senkos around the rip rap by the bridges works great in foster.

:yeahthat:

Specifically, I use a 3" Senko copycat, wacky rigged weightless. I have used 4" very successfully too but they are more expensive. From farther out, cast towards the rip rap, let it sink until you think it is close to the bottom then twitch 3-4 times, wait a bit and twitch again. As you work the bait closer to you the water is getting deeper so let it fall. Casting parallel to the bank can be better because you can cover more area at a certain depth. For example if you seem to be getting strikes 15 - 20' from shore, you can move your boat to that distance and cast along the shore. It will cover more area at a similar depth.

I have also caught a lot of bass on a 4" curley tail worm at Foster. Rig it weedless with a split shot or two about 18"-24" above the hook. Let it fall to the bottom and sit there a few. Move it a few feet and let it sit again.

Many people swear by (and only use) the drop shot rig. Put that senko or curley tail on a hook 18"-24" above a small sinker. Cast and let fall to the bottom. Twitch as above, let it sit, twitch again, let sit, move a few feet, repeat.

Set the hook!!!! :yay:

I did very well on smallies at Foster dshotting oxblood curly tails by robo worm. Most of the fish were small though but they still fight good on 6 pound test.
