My brother just e-mailed me that they got permission to fish a private experimental lake near Rochester, Minnesota.
You're allowed to keep ten sunfish per day with a minimum length of seven inches. He and his son filled on nine to ten inchers.
No motors allowed in the summer and no snowmobiles allowed for ice fishing, which they are doing now.
Fillets like that are like gold.

You have to die some day. Whether next week or 50 years from now, what difference does it make.

A farm pond in Newberg use to crank out 10-12" gills,, I never killed one so they thrived until the migrant workers were allowed to fish the pond clean. Those pigs would hit small crank baits like a bass.. often I would think I had one a big bass but the tight spin they make were a dead give away I was being treated to monster bluegills. I recall the oregon record being about 17" or so.
Since those days the fishing has stopped mostly but I don't think access is allowed to many if at all.

I would argue that you live longer IF you fish. Pick your poison!

There is a pond in Prineville that the state recird came from (I think around 12" and a hare over 2 lbs. PIG!). It costs 100.00 a day to fish but I have fished it twice and it is worth every penny. MY friend and I caught over 100 blue gill in one day (remember that's 400 if not converted to reality). They were almost all the same size. Right at 10" and 14 to 18 ounces- just a blast on a fly rod. Just remembered the name: Barnes Butte Lake.

The first time if fished it, we caught two or three bluegills and over 100 largemouths (two of us) the second time we got into the gills thick and also caught about a dozen rainbows between 12 and 18 inches. It's been a while so you would have to get a recent report. Jim Teeny is the guy who turned me on to it- I have done several fish replicas for him and he had a 1 1/2 pound bluegill from there- awesome fish.

Back in the early 80's before there was a charge to fish Barnes butte, we used to do pretty well on the gills there. When the hudspeth family decided to make it a fee lake, we never returned. I understand they manage it well and there are supposedly some trophy fish there.

Silver lake in June on the full moon is great for pounder gills! 200 a day is not hard!
I second silver lake. I hit it in the fall around the end of Oct. Caught alot of 8 inchers. There could have been some bigger but pulling them out of the weeds on light line is tuff.

That's probably the one that his buddy caught in that mud puddle. Is that right B-Run? If so you should reprint that story. That was funny.

It came from what was left of Paddock Valley res near Payette. I caught a few that day. My buddy is a blue gill freak and was every kind of bummed when he did not hook any. I gave him a male and a female ( both over 12 inches) and he is having them mounted. There is a little lake just outside Juntura ( sp) Oregon that has some big gills in it as well.
