I've always wondered, what is the plural of steelhead? Steelheads or steelhead? My grammar checker can't get it right.

Frankenfish planned to go fishing with me this morning, but guess who forgot to get a 2006 license !

Anyway, hooked two steelhead(s) today and landed one, the first for 2006.

Hooked the first steelhead on a cerise dubbed yarn egg imitation. This fish was an approx. ten pound female. When I was trying to land her, she made one last break for freedom, caught the current and ran down through some fast water where she threw the hook!

Second fish was a very bright hatchery male. He took a Lifter pattern.

He was a small fish (23-½ inch, 4 lb 5 oz), but he is my first steelhead for 2006.

Way to go, Andy! I suspected you would catch some today. I tried my best today but came up skunked. Talked to ten gear fishermen on our WA river today all fishing from first light and no sign of fish. It's been that way since the high water. I think I will play golf tomorrow and wait for broodstock and natives to arrive on the Sandy. Kinda wondering about the Alsea though.

WTG Andy. :applause: I got my first for the year yesterday. The east side rivers are finally unfrozen and in decent shape. The levels looked good so a friend and I hit the Grande Ronde for some action. On the third swing I nailed this 32" buck on my "pink worm fly." The other two I got nymphing the Madison special. I end up with three, the other two were 24" and 27". They are getting some color in them, but man did they put up a mighty fight after a month a freezing water. If the west side rivers stay blown, hit the 'Ronde. There are lots of fish in the system that are more than willing to hit a fly.

Nice summer run! We seem to forget (on the west side of the mountains) about those late summer runs!

I visited my daughter (in Tri-Cities) for Thanksgiving. I should have planned some time then for the GR!
