Hello all, I am more of a "Salty Dog" on ifish, but thought you might enjoy a look at some of my Dad's work. He really enjoyed tying these and then using them for big Ocean Coho out of Neah bay and parts North of there. Some include Polar bear - he had a documented hide patch  A few more in my gallery.

Enjoy !

Jim,
great stuff! I especially enjoyed checking out your fishing room and all your gear, new and old. I needed a drool rag.
Thanks for the pic.

Beautiful work ! Family treasures to be sure.
Man, that stuff should go down through the generations.

If you ever care to have a flyfisher along on a Salty dog outing I'd be thrilled to go throw flies at Coho, Chinook or whatever

Very nice!

I caught my first salmon on a trolled coho fly out of Tofino back in 1967. Dad tied very similar flies also using polar bear. He tied them on plastic tubes using combinations of green, blue and red bucktail with the polar bear. In fact I still have the remnant of the same hide patch (didn't know it had to be "documented", - oops ).

Thanks for posting TT!

Nice flies. I've always enjoyed seeing flies mounted that way. Polar Bear is a popular hair for many saltwater/streamer patterns. The seller needs to have acquired the polar bear hair legally; I'm not sure about the owner. There is a licensed seller of polar bear hair located in Spokane (if anyone needs the name, etc. send me a pm); I have also seen it on sale at River City.

thx for all the kind comments.

We also did not know about "documented hides" - Dad got his from a legally harvested bear (He was also a game warden..)

We learned from the guy in Spokane (who escapes memory right now). we also got saltwater long shank hooks from him.

I know john quite well. If you need some polar, give me a pm and I'll try to get you a good price. I brokered a nice hide to him for some friends of mine a few years ago for a great price and he is a great guy. I'm sure we can get a great price if we go in together on a one time buy.

Even with all the great synthetic materials on the market, I haven't seen anything that has the life-like, translucent sparkle of polar bear. I would love to get some too. Maybe we can get a few more ifisher's together for a bulk purchase?

I want to know one thing: how does one creep up to a polar bear and snip off a lock of his hair without disturbing the bear? Does one have to have mastered the art of sneaking up to a rambling river with a fly rod first. Nice flys, I used to be infactuated with tying flys when I was around 12 and have always enjoyed the artistic side of this type of fishing.

COOL! Does this mean I have to stop picking on you?

Thanks Stew!
