We decided to go storm watching today. It was better than staying home. We had a bite to eat then headed out to Barview North Jetty. We heard the surf was going to be BIG! And was it ever! The surf was huge. The wind was so strong we could barley stand up. When we first got there about 11:30 no one was there. Then in about 15 minutes the parking lot was packed..
Large wind waves were pounding the jetty and several HUGE waves actually flew across the intire parking lot, covering cars with spray. We hid behind a huge safe rock. We were able to get this shot when the sun came out for a few minutes. Picture is at Barview North Jetty Jan 1 2006.

After this storm was over we headed to the back side of Cape Mears. The trail that leads to the Octipus Tree. The toe path was dry. The sunshine was streaming thru the coast trees. The wind was howling. We would have taken more pictures but my camera battery went dead and I accidently left my second battery in the car. OOOPS. As we ventured on the trail about half way thru, I noticed small white foam bubbles on the ground. They were every where. I said to my self "Whats that?" I thought of some kind of spit a plant had given off. Then Dennis said I think its sea foam. I said no way~ we're too far away from the Ocean for that. Well needless to say as we turned the bend on the trail we looked up and saw white floating bubbles every where. Yes it was Sea Foam. The Ocean was soo HUGE it was casting Sea Foam Bubbles up - up way up into the sky. I've never seen that before. It was so beautiful, it looked like snow. It looked like it was snowing! The sun was out and it was snowing sea foam! How awesome~
As we looked south we noticed a huge black cloud heading our way. We knew we only had minutes before it would hit us. We decided to stay and stick it out. What an adventure. As it came closer we noticed a dangerous attitude it was making so we headed back up the trail. I'd say about with in 30 seconds there was lightning and thunder surrounding us with a torent of rain and hail. We made it to the trees just in time of the biggest down pour and thunder we've ever experinced on the coast before. And we were right in the middle of it. It was kinda cool~
We had warm winter gear on so we were Just Fine~
We made it home safe and sound after a full day of hiking round the beaches in the Sun, Sea Foam and Surf.
Isn't it Great on the Oregon Coast! :yay:
