I can't take credit for this, I saw it on one of the OLN fishing shows awhile back and thought it was a good tip.

Remove the bottom cap from the handle of your net and fill it with expandable spray foam. After it has cured, replace the cap and it should now float.

I've personally not tried this but plan to do it to my net before springer season. I'll test it out in some shallow water to see if it really works and let you all know.

But how do you keep the hoop float?

Brand new beckman this fall, had a new guy net my fish. I was giving him instruction on closing the bag and lifting from the hoop. He reaches down and closes his hand on the release button and the bottom of the net comes off. He caught the hoop (barely) but the fish got away. I had never thought of the importance of a floating hoop...

Does this add alot of weight? I know foam is lite but does it make it harder to control the net? I will wait to hear this before i try it. Thanks for the great idea though.

Hey cartman, I did my net last month. I just squirted the stuff in each end until it expanded out. Wiped the excess with a rag. The stuff is so light I couldn't tell it added any weight at all.

Works very well, I have had mine filled for a few years now and will do it with every net I ever purchase.

Great idea. I have an old handle that I crammed full of packing peanuts, but the spray in foam would work much easier.

Thanks

Works like a champ, did it last year & like it. I even sprayed it in the hoop too. Misguided

I will do this in the morning. What a great Idea. Today we lost the tag end that you hook to the anchor bag while full speed and turned around and there it was floating with the hook hanging down. Floating tools are good.

I guess I am just cheap, I filled my handle with the styrofoam packing that comes with most electronics these days. No way to recycle the stuff. So I just cram the stuff into the hole at the end of the handle until it won't take any more and it works great...plus I get to feel a little greener for recycling it. JMO
